I'm a former athlete, a wife of a former professional athlete, and a sports mom raising kids who compete at a high level. I don't just photograph sports. I live them. The early morning practices, the long drives to away games, the sideline nerves, the absolute joy of watching your kid execute exactly what they've been working toward.
That's the world I come from. And it's exactly why I show up differently than a photographer who just happens to own a fast lens.
Most photographers will tell you they're passionate about their work. That's fine. But passion isn't the same as understanding, and understanding is what makes the difference between a good photo and the photo.
When you've played the game, you know where to look before the moment happens. You know what a game-changing play feels like in your body before the crowd reacts. You know which reaction to watch for, which sideline moment to anticipate, which athlete is about to do something worth capturing. That's not something you learn behind a camera. That's something you bring to it.
